Alostonia
Alstonia (saptaparni) is a Glaborous tree with lush growth and can mature up to 40m tall. Its leaves grow in bunches of seven and hence also called ‘Saptaparni’. During the October month the cluster of white conical flowers emanate a distinct devilish smell which intoxicates the area around the tree. It is grown commercially for its timber which is used to make wooden slates for school children, cardboard etc. The bark is also used for various medical purposes.
